Environmental projects

Kawerau Rotary has been active over many years in helping to develop some of the beautiful walks and parks in the district.

Stoneham Walk follows the Ruruanga stream through attractive gardens. The stream is crossed by numerous bridges, including a stone bridge, that have been built as Rotary projects. Ruruanga stream has also been the scene of duck races run by Kawerau Rotary to raise funds for local organisations.  Further downstream. the Keith McKenzie Rotary Park is an attractive area for a picnic.

Another big project has been replanting 40 hectares with native trees and shrubs.to create the Monika Lanham Reserve. Kawerau Rotary worked with the District Council to raise trees and shrubs from seed and plant them, often with the help of other Rotary clubs. The Reserve has four walking tracks with panoramic views over the town. In acknowledgement of the work done by Rotary one of the entrances is called the Rotary Entrance.
